    Someone close to me had Bowel Cancer and had their bowel removed 10 years ago. Earlier this year they started to get sudden hot flushes and they were told they were suffering from panic attacks. This was around February. By the time June was here it was not only temperature rises but pain too so off they went to the Doctor who said that they should go and see a Consultant.

    To cut a long story short it ended up with three Consultants scratching their heads over it until finally a decision was made that they should take a look inside the stomach. This was finally done last week - mid August - bear the time lapses in mind - and four days later the results of the tissue came back and on Tuesday they were informed that the cancer was back - I should mention that this was after they delayed things as long as they could by telling this person that the chances of the cancer returning after 10 years was next to nil.

    This person now has to wait until Monday next when they will do tests to see if it has spread to other parts of the body - this will be the beginning of September - then on the following Friday (5th September) they will have a meeting to discuss if and how to treat it.

    How many times do they say on the Cancer Research ads on TV that if they catch it early enough they can cure it?

    What a joke - they don't even look for it and then as an NHS patient you just have to wait and see when they can fit you in. I find this disgusting - almost as disgusting as some health areas refusing to stock drugs that can help hold cancer in remission.

    So sorry to hear of the illness in your family. We have had a bad time of it since November. We lost a relative to cancer and then in January, we lost an aunt to carbon monoxide poisoning. We are leaving in the morning to go to Tennessee for a family reunion. There are three relatives there (two dying from cancer and one dying from congestive heart failure) who we will probably see for the last time as they are not expected to live out the rest of the year. I will not remember 2008 fondly in the future.
    Your family will be in my thoughts. Take care.

    I'm so sorry to hear of all your troubles this year Carja, I had a heart attack at the beginning of the year followed by a bad fall which broke some ribs and now this with Paul. Like you I shall be glad to write 2008 out of my life.

    I hope you have a wonderful weekend. I'm not really sure what we are doing this weekend. DH and I might go to listen to this free music thing outside image providing it doesn't rain. The only day this week, I'm not wishing for rain. lol It rained last weekend. I think they are going to stop the music every Friday after September I believe.image Have a great weekend!

We have some droughts in our area that haven't gotton much rain over the past couple of years. I'm so glad you have an extended weekend, I know what you mean about house work. Seems like it's something that never catches up and finishes. I thought I finished yesterday but there is a whole load of dishes out on the table and in the kitchen.
